Indications

  • Pain

Nursing considerations

  • Monitor the patient for adverse effects, such as sedation, euphoria, seizures, dizziness, nightmares, bradycardia, shock, cardiac arrest, nausea, constipation, vomiting, thrombocytopenia, and respiratory depression.
  • Keep an opioid antagonist (naloxone) and resuscitation equipment available.
