Acne is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that causes spots and pimples, especially on the face, shoulders, back, neck, chest, and upper arms.
Acne is a very common facial rash occurring in over 85% of adolescents and frequently continuing into early and midadult life. Occasionally it can cause profound psychological disturbance and depression, even suicide. The cause is multifactorial but follicular epidermal hyperproliferation, blockage of pilosebaceous units with surrounding inflammation, increased sebum production are critical factors in the pathological process.
Causes of Acne
Four main factors cause acne:
• Excess oil production
• Hair follicles clogged by oil and dead skin cells
• Excess activity of a type of hormone (androgens)
