Panic Treatment

  • Benzodiazepines—alprazolam (Xanax) and clonazepam (Klonopin) are FDA approved. Diazepam (Valium) and lorazepam (Ativan) may also be eff ective. Benzodiazepines provide rapid symptom relief and may be most useful when used early in treatment in combination with an antidepressant.
  • Phenelzine (Nardil), an MAOI, may be an alternative treatment option for treatmentresistant patients.
