  • Disseminated varicella zoster
  • Tuberculosis

Barrier protection

  • Single room is maintained under negative pressure; door remains closed except upon entering and exiting.
  • Negative airflow pressure is used in the room, with a minimum of 6 to 12 air exchanges per hour depending on health care agency protocol.
  • Ultraviolet germicide irradiation or high-efficiency particulate air filter is used in the room
  • Health care workers wear mask or personal respiratory protection device.
  • Mask placed on client when client is out of the room; client leaves the room only if necessary.
