Arteriovenous Fistula is  Surgical creation by anastomosis of an opening between a large artery and a large vein to provide an access for hemodialysis. The flow of arterial blood into the venous system causes the to become engorged (maturity). Maturity is necessary so that the engorged vein can be punctured using a large-bore needle for hemodialysis.
