Causes
- Increased sodium excretion
- Excessive diaphoresis

- Wound drainage, especially gastrointestinal
- Kidney disease
- Decreased secretion of aldosterone
- Inadequate sodium intake
- Fasting; nothing by mouth status
- Low-salt diet
